Winnipeg police wrap up year-long drug probe with major seizure

Three people have been charged after Winnipeg police seized more than $146,000 worth of high-end jewellery and clothing, $250,000 in Canadian cash, and over $10,000 in drugs following a residential drug trafficking investigation, Global News Crime reports.

The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) conducted the investigation over more than a year before moving in on the morning of 12 May. Officers searched a property on the 200 block of North Haven Way, where they recovered designer clothes, jewellery, approximately $200,000 in cash, and a vacuum sealer with packaging.

Later that same day, police arrested a female suspect after pulling her over. Separately, officers stopped a 26-year-old man riding a scooter and seized 144 grams of cocaine — valued at $7,500 on the street — along with 149 grams of cannabis marijuana, worth an estimated $2,500. Two scales and less than $100 in currency were also confiscated.

Investigators also searched additional properties, including a home on Mount Auburn Bay and one on Saskatchewan Avenue West in Portage La Prairie. No evidence was recovered from either location, according to the WPS.

Two 28-year-olds — one man and one woman — face charges of possessing over $5,000 worth of proceeds from illegally obtained property. The 26-year-old stopped on the scooter has been charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of illegally obtained property valued under $5,000, and carrying more than 30 grams of dried cannabis in public.

All three accused have been conditionally released.
