A 29-year-old man already wanted on a Canada-wide warrant is now facing additional charges after Nova Scotia RCMP arrested him for allegedly stealing a truck in Inverness County, ctvnews.ca reports.
Police received a report of a stolen truck out of Middle River at approximately 1:35 p.m. on Thursday. An officer located a black Chevrolet Silverado on Highway 105 near Baddeck but chose not to pursue the vehicle due to public safety concerns.
A second officer spotted the same truck on Highway 105 in Boularderie East around 2:15 p.m. and attempted a traffic stop. The Silverado accelerated and fled at high speed, according to an RCMP news release.
Officers deployed a spike belt on Highway 105, successfully deflating all four tires. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot, but was taken into custody a short time later.
The suspect, Dylan Edwards of North Sydney, had been wanted on a warrant related to parole violations. He now faces additional charges stemming from the theft and the police chase.
