Canadian Foster Father Sentenced to 25 Years for Child Sexual Abuse After Norwegian Police Tip-Off

A 38-year-old man in Canada received a 25-year prison sentence for sexually abusing children, following an investigation that began with police work in Norway's Romerike district.

Officers in Lillestrøm discovered chat messages, images, and videos while investigating a separate case in the area. The material revealed abuse carried out by a man residing in Canada, according to Romerikes Blad.

Working together with Kripos, Norway's national criminal investigation service, local police identified the 38-year-old suspect and notified Canadian authorities. When police raided his residence, six children were removed from the home.

"He abused and violated the most vulnerable victims imaginable, in some of the most abhorrent and invasive ways possible," judge Patrick Sullivan stated when delivering the sentence, as reported by CBC.

The man was convicted of sexual offenses against two children and of producing and distributing abuse material involving two foster children. At the time of his arrest, he was a foster parent to three children and operated a daycare facility.

"The vulnerability of these children cannot be overstated. Their age would have made it difficult, if not impossible, for them to understand, resist, or report what was happening to them," Sullivan added.

The man from Romerike who was originally under investigation has been charged with aiding the rape of one of the foster children over the internet. His defense attorney says he admits guilt for most of the charges. His trial is scheduled for the autumn.
