Fatal shooting at Pelican Narrows health clinic leaves one dead, one injured

One person is dead and another is seriously injured after a shooting near the health clinic in Pelican Narrows, a community roughly 500 kilometres northeast of Saskatoon in northern Saskatchewan, castanet.net reports.

RCMP issued an active shooter alert earlier Monday, asking residents to find a safe location and lock their doors. By Monday evening, police said events were still unfolding and the investigation remained in its preliminary stages.

Officers are searching for a male suspect described as wearing all-black clothing and a face covering. He was last seen travelling on foot, though police said they did not know in which direction. No other injuries have been reported, and no further details about the two victims have been released.

Residents were also urged not to share police locations in the community during the response.

The shooting comes days after Pelican Narrows issued a public notice stating that a security checkpoint had been reinstated at the community's entrance. The notice cited concerns about trespassing, trafficking, and related violence, and indicated that all people attempting to enter would be required to show valid identification.
