Richmound School owner's trial likely set for 2027

The man who allowed the Kingdom of Canada group to operate out of the former Richmound School returned to court this week, swiftcurrentonline.com reports, with proceedings once again adjourned.

Ricky Manz, 62, appeared before Swift Current Provincial Court on Wednesday. A charge of intimidation of a justice system participant was stayed in March, but Manz still faces several remaining charges, including assault, uttering a threat, and resisting arrest.

His lawyer, Clinton Yarshenko, told the court that disclosure in the case is extensive, requiring additional time to confirm that all materials have been received by both parties.

"I'd like to get a list of opposed submissions to know how long we'd need for a trial," Yarshenko said.

The trial is expected to be held in Leader. With court dates filling up, a hearing is unlikely to be scheduled before 2027.

Manz is set to return to Swift Current Provincial Court on June 24, at which point the court hopes to confirm a trial date.
