Members of the force's Community Oriented Response and Enforcement team were riding in a covert vehicle near the junction of Montreal and Rideau Streets when they recognized a man with an active warrant. The suspect pedaled away on a bike but was intercepted moments later. A subsequent search turned up close to 25 grams of fentanyl and some money. The 34-year-old was driven to the main police station and kept for a court appearance regarding release. Officials withheld his name and would not say what the warrant concerned.

That afternoon, around ten minutes before one o'clock, the same squad was near Clergy and Princess Streets and spotted someone they believed was handing over an unlawful drug. When approached, the person tried to tuck objects into their garments. Officers placed them under detention and recovered fentanyl, morphine, and Dilaudid. The 40-year-old was also brought to the station for a custody hearing. Their name and address were not made public either.

A spokesperson for the department, Lindsey Hegadorn, told Kingstonist that both detainees live in the city. She offered no details about the older suspect's warrant.

The department said the actions reflect its ongoing push to break up narcotics distribution networks and keep hazardous chemicals off local streets. It specifically pointed to fentanyl as a substance that endangers public welfare.
