Google News CA — Crime (EN) reports that Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have opened a homicide investigation after confirming the body discovered in a Spencerville home on Saturday belonged to Chelsea Swinwood, a 37-year-old woman who had been reported missing.

Swinwood was last seen on Aug. 22 in Prescott, a community near Spencerville, south of Ottawa, according to OPP statements to CBC News.

No arrests or suspects have been announced. OPP said they believe Swinwood's death was an isolated incident, with "no signs of a broader threat" to the wider community.

"This is an ongoing investigation and investigators continue to gather and assess information," OPP spokesperson Sgt. Erin Cranton said in an email statement.

Rory Deschamps, mayor of the Township of Edwardsburgh Cardinal — which encompasses Spencerville — called it an "incredibly difficult time" for the area. He said he had not yet spoken with Swinwood's family but extended his condolences.

"I would offer up [that] if anybody does have relevant information, to make sure that they contact our local OPP," Deschamps said. "It's important that the person who did this is held accountable for their actions."

Residents in Spencerville should expect a continued police presence as the investigation proceeds, OPP added.
