A man from Peterborough already facing a murder accusation now also stands charged with firearm possession after police searched a property in his hometown.

A 39-year-old man from Peterborough, already accused of murdering a senior citizen in Toronto, now faces extra counts tied to an illegal handgun.

The homicide probe began on December 9, 2025, when responders were dispatched shortly after 8:30 a.m. to a residence at the intersection of St. Clair Avenue and Rushton Road. Inside the unit, they located a 79-year-old female who was no longer alive. A forensic autopsy established the death was a homicide.

Three individuals were apprehended during the inquiry. The Peterborough suspect was charged with first-degree murder in the elderly victim's death.

Several months later, detectives executed a search warrant at a location in Peterborough. That operation yielded new evidence, prompting prosecutors to add further counts against the same defendant.

He is now also accused of keeping a banned handgun without authorization and violating terms of a prior court order.
