Two individuals were taken into custody by the RCMP on Thursday morning during a targeted operation in Montreal's Montréal-Nord district. The apprehensions are linked to an inquiry into suspected migrant-smuggling activities.

Federal officers detained an alleged organizer and another person when both reached a specific address in the borough. Law-enforcement officials stated that the dwelling served as a short-term refuge for people who had entered the country unlawfully, or as a concealed holding spot while arrangements were made to move them across the southern border without documentation.

The takedown was spearheaded by the Champlain Integrated Border Enforcement Team. This specialized task force combines resources from Canadian federal police, the national border agency, American customs officers, and additional U.S. security organizations.

Authorities indicated that the file is still open and active. Further arrests or charges have not been ruled out.
