According to Global News Crime, Regina Police Service officers shot and injured a man after responding to reports of him allegedly firing a crossbow and threatening people inside a home on the 800 block of Elphinstone Street around 2:10 a.m. Tuesday.

Three people were present when officers arrived — the male suspect, a woman, and a boy. Officers safely removed the woman and boy from the residence before an altercation broke out between the man and police, during which two officers discharged their firearms.

The suspect was transported to hospital with what appeared to be serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, the Regina Police Service said in a news release.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area. Saskatchewan's civilian-led Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT), which independently investigates incidents involving police, has taken over the investigation.
