Vancouver man charged after restaurant worker suffers dislocated shoulder in alleged unprovoked attack

A 37-year-old Ontario man is in custody in Vancouver after allegedly assaulting a restaurant worker, leaving the victim with a dislocated shoulder, Vancouver Sun Crime reports.

Victor Coscarella had been in the city for less than a week when police received at least five calls about him. On Tuesday at approximately 11:30 a.m., a witness reported a man shouting profanities in the Mount Pleasant neighbourhood.

When officers arrived on scene, the suspect was seen throwing an object at a vehicle. He fled when police attempted to arrest him, but was located shortly afterward hiding in nearby bushes and taken into custody.

Investigators subsequently determined that a restaurant worker had been assaulted during a separate incident. The victim sustained a dislocated shoulder in the altercation, and the suspect's description matched the man already in custody.

"The suspect has recently arrived in Vancouver, and has been the subject of over five calls to police this week," Vancouver police Const. Megan Lui said in a statement. "The assault appears to have been unprovoked, and the motive is unknown at this time."

Coscarella has been charged with assault causing bodily harm and obstructing a peace officer. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
