The incident claimed the life of one police officer and left another critically wounded, according to statements from Montreal police reported by Aktuality.sk, citing AFP and CTV News.

In a statement posted on platform X, Montreal police confirmed with deep sorrow the death of one of their officers killed in the line of duty. A second officer sustained serious injuries and remains in critical condition. A civilian also died in the attack.

Officers were called to the intersection of Courtrai and Trans Island streets at 11:35 a.m. local time. The area is known for its kosher restaurants and supermarkets, frequented by the city's sizable Jewish community.

Authorities urged residents to avoid the neighborhood. No further details about the shooter's motive have been released so far.
