Gunshots fired at Surrey home linked to extortion

Vancouver Sun Crime reports that Surrey police received a call Tuesday morning from a homeowner in the 16500-block of 58th Avenue at around 8 a.m. The resident had discovered what appeared to be bullet damage to the exterior of their home.

Officers confirmed the damage was caused by gunfire recorded at 2:51 a.m. The residents were inside the home at the time but no one was injured.

The Surrey Police Service's extortion response team has assumed control of the investigation. Early indications suggest extortion was the motive behind the shooting.

The incident occurred on the same day the U.S. Justice Department announced a series of arrests tied to alleged international extortion, drug trafficking, and murder syndicates operating across borders.

Anyone present in the area at the time who witnessed suspicious activity, or who has dashcam or surveillance footage from the vicinity, is asked to contact the SPS non-emergency line at 604-599-0502.
