A 25-year-old man was arrested near Noyan, Quebec after allegedly ramming a police vehicle and injuring an RCMP officer. Five migrants were also detained.

A 25-year-old man has been charged with assaulting a peace officer after allegedly ramming a police vehicle at the Canada-U.S. border in Quebec's Montérégie region, globalnews.ca reports.

U.S. Border Patrol alerted Canadian authorities on Tuesday that five people had allegedly crossed the border illegally in the Noyan area. An officer from the Champlain detachment's Integrated Border Enforcement Team intercepted the vehicle in which the migrants were travelling.

The driver allegedly failed to stop and deliberately struck the door of the police vehicle, injuring the officer, before fleeing the scene. The suspect was later apprehended and charged with assaulting a peace officer, dangerous operation, and failing to stop after an accident. He remains in custody ahead of a court appearance scheduled for June 5.

The five migrants were arrested under the Customs Act and subsequently transferred to the Canada Border Services Agency.
