Gunfire erupted at the "Salsa on St. Clair" festival in Toronto on Saturday, leaving two people dead and at least four others injured, according to local police.

Toronto police reported that six individuals were found at the scene with gunshot wounds. Two of them were pronounced dead. Authorities have not released further details about the severity of injuries sustained by the survivors.

The suspect has not yet been apprehended. Police stated on the social media platform X that "significant police resources remain in the area, and officers are continuing the investigation."

An AFP journalist at the scene confirmed the shooting occurred during the salsa festival.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford expressed his reaction on social media: "I am shocked by the senseless violence at the Salsa on St. Clair festival that has taken two lives and injured others."

The incident comes shortly after another shooting in Montreal at the end of last month, where an attacker killed two people, including a police officer, before being shot dead by law enforcement.
