A 44-year-old man from Toronto has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following the fatal shooting of a 28-year-old in the York area last week.

Omar Peters was taken into custody on Tuesday in connection with the death of Isaiah Peters Alexander, also of Toronto. The victim was discovered gravely wounded in a laneway near Eglinton Avenue West and Yarrow Road around 2:15 a.m. on Friday. Paramedics transported him to hospital, where he was later declared deceased.

Toronto Police confirmed the incident marked the city's 15th homicide of the year. Investigators determined the cause of death was gunshot wounds.
