Toronto Festival Gun Attack Leaves Two Dead, Four Wounded

A Saturday evening street party in midtown Toronto turned deadly when shots rang out among thousands of attendees, leaving two people dead and four others hurt.

The victims were named as Shaquan Quashie, 25, and Cesar Vernaza, 20. Both died from injuries sustained during the violence at the Salsa on St. Clair gathering.

Four additional individuals required medical care after the incident. The attack occurred during an annual celebration of Latin heritage, where large crowds had assembled for food, performances, and entertainment.

The city's police chief described the assault as a deliberate, targeted act. He appealed for stricter legal consequences for those who commit such brazen attacks in public spaces.

Law enforcement officials are looking into whether this incident might be linked to two other recent shootings in the area.

Event organizers scrapped the remaining Sunday programming as detectives processed the scene. The festival normally draws substantial crowds for its cultural offerings.
