Toronto police have carried out what they describe as the largest seizure of counterfeit fan merchandise in Canadian history.

Acting on a tip that fake goods were being sold to retail outlets, officers raided a warehouse in Mississauga, Ontario. Inside, they discovered more than 16,000 counterfeit jerseys and flags falsely branded as official products from FIFA, Nike, Adidas and Puma. Officers also recovered two counterfeit World Cup trophies.

Two individuals were arrested and charged in connection with the operation.

Toronto is serving as one of the host cities for the World Cup tournament, which is expected to draw more than 300,000 visitors.
