A 59-year-old Air Canada pilot is facing fraud charges after allegedly operating approximately 900 flights as captain without holding the required federal pilot's license.

A 59-year-old man served as captain on roughly 900 Air Canada flights between 2009 and 2025 without possessing the mandatory license from Transport Canada, the country's federal aviation regulator. Geoff Wall has now been arrested and faces prosecution for fraud and several additional offenses, according to Canadian authorities.

The case came to light after an investigation revealed that Wall's identification documents during his time at the airline were allegedly forged, stated Chad Michell of the police. Wall lacked the qualifications needed to ensure safety for hundreds of unsuspecting Air Canada passengers, authorities said.

Nick Milinovich, also with the police, compared the situation to a general practitioner performing brain surgery: "It's like a doctor with a license to practice general medicine performing brain surgery at their clinic."

Air Canada issued a statement claiming passenger safety was never compromised by Wall's actions, noting he had demonstrated a high competency level for safely operating large aircraft. However, the airline also emphasized it takes this matter with the utmost seriousness.

John Gradek, an aviation management lecturer at McGill University, argued that both Transport Canada and Air Canada should be held accountable for failing to conduct routine checks that would have uncovered Wall's lack of proper licensing.

"He was an excellent pilot. That doesn't mean he had the right to fly," Gradek said.
