Two men were shot and killed at the Salsa on St. Clair street festival in Toronto on Saturday night in what police describe as a targeted attack.

Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw confirmed the shooting was not random, stating the victims were deliberately targeted. The deceased have been identified as Cesar Vinces, 20, and Shaquan Quashie, 25.

The deadly gunfire erupted during the popular annual festival, which draws large crowds to the St. Clair West neighbourhood for live music, dancing, and food. The violence has prompted renewed calls from the police chief for harsher penalties for public attacks.

Despite the double homicide, city officials say summer street festivals will continue as planned. Mayor Olivia Chow emphasized that outdoor gatherings remain a vital part of Toronto's culture and will not be cancelled due to criminal activity. Both Chow and Demkiw pledged increased collaboration between police, city staff, and event organizers to enhance security measures at future festivals.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing. No arrests have been announced at this time.
