According to ca.news.yahoo.com, two men from the Wagmatcook First Nation in Cape Breton have been charged with second-degree murder following a stabbing that occurred Wednesday in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

Pavel Benjamin Peck, 29, and Vernon Gregory Peck, 32, appeared Thursday in provincial court in Sydney. Cape Breton Regional Police confirmed in a news release that both men were known to the victim, Terrance Campbell.

Campbell, a 39-year-old Sydney man, was discovered with stab wounds at a residence on Frederick Street and later died in hospital.

Police described the incident as isolated and stated there is no threat to public safety.

Beyond the murder charge, Vernon Peck faces an additional count of forcible confinement. Pavel Peck is also charged with breaches of three previous court orders. He had been scheduled to appear in court last month on separate charges — including assault with a weapon and various weapons offences — but failed to appear, prompting a warrant for his arrest.

Both men remain in custody pending their next court appearance, scheduled later this month.
