Nephew Arrested at Airport After Allegedly Setting Uncle on Fire in Punda
A man was taken into custody Saturday evening at the airport on suspicion of attempted murder following a fiery assault that left a relative injured along the I.H. Sha Caprileskade in Punda. The Korps Politie Curaçao (KPC) announced the arrest in a press release, according to nu.CW.
Investigators say the suspect, the victim's nephew, allegedly poured a combustible liquid over his uncle and the uncle's partner earlier that day and then attempted to set them alight.
The uncle sustained burn injuries and was transported to the Curaçao Medical Center for care.
Shortly afterward, the suspect tried to flee the island. Officers removed him from an aircraft and placed him under arrest.
The KPC continues to investigate the circumstances and possible motive behind the attack.
