A strong police presence across Cyprus on Saturday night resulted in ten arrests for narcotics possession, illegal stay, begging and other offences, while officers checked hundreds of drivers and premises.

Ten individuals were taken into custody during extensive police operations across Cyprus on Saturday night as authorities stepped up efforts to combat organized crime and serious offences.

Those arrested face charges including unlawful possession of narcotics, illegal residence on the island, begging, and additional criminal violations. The crackdown involved widespread checks throughout the territory.

Law enforcement personnel inspected 728 drivers and 305 passengers during the course of the operations. Additionally, 64 business premises were examined, leading to nine charges being filed.

Among motorists, officers issued 227 citations, with 13 incidents requiring further investigation. Speeding accounted for 105 of the charges, and 15 vehicles were seized by authorities.

Alcohol testing was administered to 314 people, resulting in 19 charges. Two individuals were also found to be operating vehicles under the influence of drugs.

Police indicated that similar operations will be carried out on an ongoing basis to enhance public safety across the island.
