Law-enforcement agencies in Cyprus issued a public warning on Tuesday about a wave of fraudulent text messages being sent to mobile phones. The SMS messages falsely claim the recipient has an outstanding traffic ticket and must pay an out-of-court settlement immediately.

Each message contains a hyperlink that redirects the user to a fake payment portal. The real objective, officers explained, is to harvest personal and banking information and then siphon funds from the victim's accounts.

Investigators urged citizens to remain vigilant and to ignore any such communication. They specifically advised against clicking links from unfamiliar or suspicious senders and cautioned against entering sensitive data on unverified websites.

Anyone who receives one of these texts should contact the relevant authorities before acting on it, police said.
