The criminal trial involving the alleged theft of sensitive documents from Cyprus central prisons has been pushed back once more, after it became clear that the prosecution had not handed over the complete set of records previously ordered by the court.

At an earlier stage of proceedings, the Nicosia criminal court had directed state prosecutors to produce roughly 2,900 documents so the bench could assess which items were relevant to the charges. When the hearing resumed on Tuesday, the presiding judge noted that the file was still incomplete and questioned how the defence could prepare its case without full disclosure.

The defence counsel argued that the trial should not proceed until every document had been shared. The prosecution acknowledged the delay and requested additional time to compile the outstanding material.

After hearing both sides, the court agreed to adjourn the matter until Friday, giving the state a final window to submit the remaining records.

The case concerns accusations that confidential prison files were removed from the central prisons. The documents are said to contain sensitive information about inmates and internal procedures. The alleged offences have drawn significant attention because of the potential implications for prison security and data protection.
