A driver in his mid-forties was apprehended in Aglandjia after officers recorded him travelling at more than double the permitted speed while heavily intoxicated.

Law enforcement officers apprehended a 45-year-old driver in Nicosia shortly after midnight on suspicion of operating a vehicle while impaired and at unlawful velocity.

The man's car was intercepted on Larnaca Avenue in the Aglandjia area around 12:30 am. Officers had measured the automobile travelling at 104 km/h in a zone where the ceiling is 50 km/h.

A breath examination returned a value of 78 microgrammes, substantially surpassing the statutory cap of 22.

The suspect was placed under arrest and is expected to face a judge at the district court in Nicosia on Wednesday. Personnel at the Omorfita precinct are pursuing enquiries.
