A motorist aged 24 was taken into custody after a traffic accident in Pera Chorio during the early hours of Monday, with authorities stating his breath sample showed alcohol levels far exceeding what the law allows.

The crash took place around 3am, when the young man's vehicle hit a car driven by a woman aged 26. As reported by the Cyprus Mail, the female motorist was brought to Nicosia general hospital for precautionary checks. Medical personnel treated her for slight wounds and cuts before releasing her. Officers carried out a breath examination on the male driver. The device indicated 105 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of exhaled air. The maximum permitted figure under Cypriot law is 22 micrograms.
