Officers rounded up five suspects between the ages of 20 and 28 and recovered close to 21 kilograms of dried opium poppy pods in simultaneous raids across three Cypriot districts.

The haul totalled 20.78kg. One detainee, 22, was already behind bars over an unrelated drugs matter, reports the Cyprus Mail.

Two of those arrested, aged 27 and 28, were found to be residing on the island without valid permits.

Overall, the force has now lifted more than 52kg of poppy-related material and arrested ten people since the investigation began.
