A middle-aged suspect has been taken into custody for a series of property crimes spanning several months in the Famagusta region.

Law enforcement on the island announced Thursday that they had placed a 46-year-old individual under arrest following a wave of property crimes in the eastern district. The incidents in question unfolded between the start of spring and the first day of July.

Officers initially picked the man up in relation to a pair of unlawful entries. While being questioned, he is said to have acknowledged taking part in nearly a dozen offences in total.

The apprehension was carried out under authority granted by the courts as detectives looked into the pattern of intrusions affecting homes and premises in the area. Prosecutors are preparing to bring him before a judge in Famagusta to seek an order for continued detention.

Investigators at the district's CID remain active on the file.
