Officers in Limassol placed a 40-year-old male under arrest late Friday following a violent altercation at his residence that left another individual critically wounded.

Authorities were notified shortly after midnight when a 45-year-old man arrived at the city's main hospital with life-threatening injuries consistent with blade wounds. Medical teams immediately performed emergency surgery; the victim remains under intensive care.

The probe revealed that the suspect had telephoned the older man earlier that same evening, asking him to come by to iron out a private disagreement. When the victim showed up with two family members, the host reportedly turned hostile and lashed out with a cutting weapon, causing grave harm to the 45-year-old.

Law-enforcement officials say inquiries into the episode are still active.
