Cocaine courier held in custody after drug packets found inside body at Larnaca airport
A 28-year-old male remains behind bars after police intercepted over a kilo of cocaine hidden internally as he arrived through Larnaca airport. Officers from the narcotics squad (Ykan) and border customs detained the individual on July 6, acting on a tip-off about incoming drug shipments, Cyprus Mail reports.
Following the arrest, the man was escorted to Larnaca general hospital under medical watch. Over the course of his stay, he expelled 110 tiny parcels arranged into six larger groupings. Laboratory analysis confirmed the substance as cocaine, with the haul tipping the scales at 1.11 kilograms in gross weight.
The suspect completed his hospital treatment on Tuesday and was produced at the Larnaca district court the next morning. There, the judge recorded the charges and transferred the file to the criminal court for eventual trial.
The court denied bail, ordering the accused to remain in detention until his subsequent hearing fixed for October 5.
