A criminal tribunal sitting in Famagusta convicted a 30-year-old male on Monday and ordered him to spend eight years behind bars for a sexual offence.
The attack happened on 13 July 2024 within the Famagusta district, according to law-enforcement officials. A female complainant came forward, leading detectives from the local CID to open an inquiry.
Once investigators had assembled their file, the prosecution moved the case straight to trial. The bench directed that the accused be kept in detention while hearings proceeded.
After weighing the evidence put forward by the state, the judges returned a guilty verdict and fixed the punishment at eight years of imprisonment.
