Law enforcement held nine individuals during a Friday night operation across Cyprus for offences ranging from attempted arson and drug possession to drunk driving and unlawful stay.

Nine individuals were taken into custody during a Friday night enforcement sweep carried out across the island.

Those apprehended face accusations spanning several violations. Among them are allegations of trying to set a fire, holding banned substances, operating a stolen motorbike, driving while intoxicated, and remaining in the country without permission.

Throughout the crackdown, members of the force inspected 666 automobiles and verified the identities of 810 people. Road safety formed a major focus of the effort.

Officers filed 371 notices for traffic breaches and opened 28 further cases. They seized 20 automobiles for continued examination.

Speeding accounted for 118 of the recorded violations. Another 27 drivers were caught operating vehicles after consuming alcohol. In addition, three motorists showed positive results in initial narcotics screening.

In total, 263 breathalyser examinations and eight drug tests were administered.

The force indicated that comparable actions will take place every day, with focused inspections and patrols continuing.
