A spokesperson for the force, Vyron Vyronos, informed the Cyprus News Agency that the service was waiting for the official announcement before the external team could call upon police detectives to participate. He explained that those collecting testimony need understanding of domestic legal processes so that evidence can be accepted during judicial proceedings.
"In situations like these, our support is regularly requested. If asked, we will offer it to the greatest extent possible," Vyronos commented.
The file is expected to be passed to the independent team by the council of ministers. Their selection comes after the anti-graft body wrapped up its own broad review, which heard from about 150 individuals, held some 200 sessions, and reviewed a large volume of material.
Earlier in the week, the administration called on citizens to remain patient while the independent team conducts its work, underlining that the process should remain free from any political influence.
