A 47-year-old motorist was detained in western Limassol and later remanded for five days after police seized nearly 60 grams of crystal meth during a village traffic stop.

Officers in western Limassol detained a 47-year-old motorist on Friday and later secured a custody order lasting five days after seizing almost 60 grams of the synthetic stimulant.

As reported by Cyprus Mail, the traffic stop happened at approximately 1:30 p.m. within a rural community in the district while the crime-prevention squad was on routine rounds. During the inspection, personnel spotted a plastic pouch holding slightly more than 2 grams of the substance on the driver. A follow-up sweep of the automobile uncovered another secretly stashed pouch weighing nearly 59 grams.

Authorities also determined that the suspect was behind the wheel with an invalid learner’s licence. Following the apprehension, detectives transferred him to the Limassol anti-drug headquarters (Ykan), where he conceded that the illicit material was his. A judge approved the remand on Saturday, allowing investigators additional time to build their case.
