A man aged 22 was placed under arrest on Sunday, becoming the third individual caught up in a Limassol investigation into dried poppy pods, according to Cyprus Mail.

He had been sought by investigators and was captured on the strength of an existing judicial order. Once in custody, officials established that he lacked lawful permission to remain in the Republic, prompting a second arrest for unauthorised residence.

The inquiry began two days earlier when a 23-year-old was intercepted on foot in Limassol. Inside his carry bag, officers located two plastic parcels of dried poppy pods tipping the scales at 418 grams.

A follow-up raid at the older suspect's living quarters uncovered a 21-year-old companion and a carton containing eight further plastic parcels of the same substance, weighing 1.682 kilograms altogether.

The pair first arrested were brought before a Limassol district judge, who ruled they should remain in detention for eight days.
