A 29-year-old was placed under preventive detention on Saturday after a Limassol magistrate granted a five-day remand, bringing the total number of arrestees in a narcotics case to three.

The chain of events began after law enforcement received tips about methamphetamine dealing. On Tuesday, narcotics detectives followed two individuals—a 50-year-old male and a 42-year-old female—to a rural location in Paphos, where they rendezvoused with the younger individual. Surveillance footage reportedly shows the older male taking banknotes from his clothing and exchanging them for an undisclosed package with the 29-year-old. He then allegedly collected a separate item from the latter’s vehicle before departing.

Shortly afterwards, the duo was halted in Limassol. A vehicle search yielded four plastic bags containing roughly 145 grams of crystal meth, along with a used smoking pipe. The two were taken into custody and subsequently ordered held for seven days.

The younger participant managed to flee the scene initially, forcing investigators to seek an arrest warrant. He was eventually located on Friday when a combined force from the drug squad (Ykan), Paphos criminal investigators and the Paphos emergency-response unit intercepted his car in the Paphos area based on fresh information. Officers recovered an additional 5 grams of the stimulant.

When the suspect was brought before the Limassol district court the following day, the judge approved a five-day remand. Detectives are now probing multiple alleged violations, including collusion to commit a serious offence, banned-substance possession, intent to distribute, drug sales, illicit consumption and money laundering. The inquiry is being pursued jointly by Ykan teams in Limassol and Paphos.
