A woman in Cyprus was defrauded of €10,000 by criminals operating an online loan scheme promoted through social media, according to the Cyprus Mail (https://cyprus-mail.com/2026/08/12/woman-scammed-out-of-e10000-in-online-loan-fraud).
Police said the victim clicked an electronic link in a social media advertisement, which directed her to a website where she submitted personal information, including her phone number. On July 24, unknown persons contacted her and instructed her to transfer €10,000 to secure the promised loan. The suspects provided a QR code and pressed her to complete the digital payment.
After sending the funds, the woman realised she had been deceived and reported the matter to authorities. Investigations are continuing.
