Police received a report that a tram had struck a person. Based on eyewitness observations, the victim had been pushed onto the tracks before the collision.
Police managed to apprehend the suspected perpetrator quickly in the vicinity of the scene. The man was arrested and has been detained.
The lead investigator, detective superintendent Jari Kinnunen, states that it is a case of attempted murder. Police have interviewed multiple eyewitnesses and are investigating the sequence of events.
The victim sustained injuries in the collision and was taken to hospital care. According to police, however, the victim's injuries are not life-threatening.
The scene, Hämeenkatu, is one of Tampere's busiest city centre streets. A Friday evening is also a busy time in the city's nightlife.
