Tampere Nekala killing: 21-year-old sentenced to ten years
Ossi Viljami Ojala, 21, was sentenced to ten years in prison for a murder in Tampere's Nekala district in February. The victim was stabbed in the heart in a stairwell in connection with a drug deal.
Ten-year sentence for Nekala stairwell killing
The Pirkanmaa District Court has sentenced Ossi Viljami Ojala, 21, to ten years in prison for murder in Tampere's Nekala district, Iltalehti reported.
Ojala had arranged a meeting with his victim in the basement-level stairwell of an apartment building. The purpose of the meeting was drug transactions, which the men had discussed on Snapchat. They did not know each other beforehand.
Ojala prepared for the meeting by arming himself with a kitchen knife. During the transaction, a quarrel broke out, whereupon he stabbed the victim twice. One blow struck the heart.
A neighbour who testified said he had come home at around 2 a.m. and heard arguing in the stairwell about fifteen minutes later, lasting approximately one minute. Later he found blood trails leading to the basement.
Ojala admitted to the crime and did not wish to be heard. Other evidence supported his confession.
The district court ordered Ojala to pay the victim's family approximately 22,000 euros in compensation for suffering and funeral costs, and to reimburse the parties' legal costs.
"The world collapsed around us. We have experienced things that hardly anyone is able to understand," said one family member.
