Law enforcement descended on 21 residences in the capital and Ilfov County on Wednesday, 17 June 2026. The operation targeted 22 individuals belonging to the Ștoacă and Toboșarii groups, suspected of serious crimes in a case being investigated by the Bucharest Police, according to Digi24.

Teams acted with the support of special forces, officers from Ilfov and gendarmes from Bucharest. The investigations concern acts such as extortion, disturbance of the peace, physical assaults, violations of weapons legislation and their unauthorised use.

According to investigators, since the beginning of this year, several men from one of the factions had been systematically exercising physical and psychological violence against certain people, attempting to prevent them from circulating through two Bucharest neighbourhoods that they claimed. At the same time, against the backdrop of an older conflict between the two families, attacks with bladed and non-lethal weapons were said to have occurred, seriously affecting public safety. One suspect allegedly coerced two other people through intimidation to provide him with material benefits.

Information from judicial circles, cited by News.ro, shows that the raids focused on the Ferentari areas (considered the Ștoacă group's territory) and Giurgiului (the Toboșarii zone). The struggle for supremacy also includes control over gaming halls, with each clan claiming the right to exclude rivals from establishments in the neighbourhood it controls.

Confrontations between the two groups intensified from the beginning of the year. In a particularly violent episode, ten gunshots were fired, portions of road were set alight and several cars were destroyed by hurling incendiary bottles. Members of these factions use machetes and various blunt objects in their fights.

The individuals identified as a result of the operation will be taken in for questioning.
