Two arrested after firearm seized during traffic stop on Zagers-Gut Road, Sint Maarten
Police stopped a white Kia Seltos on Zagers-Gut Road at 1 a.m. after spotting it in a social media video showing men with firearms. Both occupants were arrested.
Firearm recovered after police intercept vehicle linked to social media video
PHILIPSBURG — Shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Monday, 14 September 2026, officers from the Sint Maarten Police Force (KPSM) stopped a white Kia Seltos on Zagers-Gut Road near its intersection with Coralita Road, 721news Sint Maarten reports.
The vehicle had been flagged after a video began circulating on social media showing a group of men displaying multiple firearms on the island. Officers conducting routine checks in the area recognised the car and moved to intercept it.
When the vehicle came to a stop, the driver stepped out whilst carrying a firearm. Officers ordered him to place the weapon on the ground, which he did. Police then secured the firearm.
The driver, identified by the initials J.J.B. and known to police, was arrested on the spot. His passenger, identified as C.E.D., was also taken into custody. Both men were transported to the police station in Philipsburg, where they remain detained pending questioning on suspicion of illegal firearm possession.
The investigation into the origin of the weapon and the circumstances surrounding the social media video is ongoing.
KPSM stated it will continue targeted controls and investigative actions as part of broader efforts to remove illegal firearms from circulation and improve public safety across Sint Maarten. The force is asking anyone with information about illegal firearms or related criminal activity to come forward and contact police.
