Drugs found in BMW at St George's port, Gouyave man arrested

Customs officers at St George's main port seized a large quantity of marijuana from a black BMW shipped from the UK. A man from Gouyave was arrested in connection with the find.

According to thenewtodaygrenada.com, the Customs Department has intercepted another Grenadian attempting to smuggle a large quantity of illegal drugs into the country.

A Customs Officer discovered the drugs on Monday during an inspection at St George's main port. The vehicle in question — a black BMW — had arrived from the United Kingdom and was listed as a parts vehicle.

On inspection, officers found "a substantial amount of marijuana" inside the car. A man from Gouyave who arrived at the port to clear the vehicle was subsequently arrested in connection with the discovery.

"The fellah is from Gouyave – is an English fellah. He was in England and he come back. I don't know if he's a returning resident or not but he just come back from England," a well-placed source told the outlet.

The same source indicated that the man's behaviour had raised suspicion from the outset, describing him as a "show-off" who spoke as though he had considerable wealth and was, in the source's words, "very full of himself."

Within minutes of the seizure, officers from the Drug Squad of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) arrived on the scene to take charge of the investigation.

The incident follows a similar case reported just over a week ago, in which a Customs Officer intercepted a large quantity of drugs in a barrel at Compass Shipping on the Lagoon Road. That consignment was linked to an individual from Crochu, St Andrew.

With carnival approximately three months away, sources note that those involved in the illegal drug trade typically use this period to build up supply. The variety of marijuana said to be in high demand on the local market at present is known as Kush.
