Elizabeth "Liz" Waddell, 44, from Cary, North Carolina, has been missing since Wednesday, July 22, after she entered the water for a swim near Grand Anse Beach in St. George's, Grenada, and was never seen returning to shore, according to abc11.com.

The Royal Grenada Police Force released new details during a news conference on Tuesday. Commissioner of Police Randy Connaught confirmed the case is still being treated as a missing person investigation.

Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators shows Waddell walking toward a jetty near her Airbnb at 11:36 a.m. on July 22, dressed in a swimsuit. She spent several minutes sitting on the jetty in the sun before removing her towel and entering the water at approximately 11:51 a.m. She was seen swimming at 12:04 p.m.

The footage does not show her returning from the water. At approximately 12:46 p.m., Waddell's travel companion was recorded walking outside to look for her before returning alone, police said.

Her disappearance was subsequently reported, prompting an immediate search response from Grenadian authorities. The Coast Guard and local dive teams have conducted underwater searches, and a K9 unit has been deployed. Investigators are continuing to review evidence and reconstruct her movements in the lead-up to her disappearance.

Commissioner Connaught said the investigative team is also looking into activity in the surrounding area. "The investigative team is also examining whether any person, vessel or vehicle, moved to the relevant locations during this critical period," he said.

Waddell's husband, Cailen Waddell, said in a statement that he personally swam the area himself. He described the water as shallow near the shore and rocky in places, noting it was "more like a lake — not like the ocean water we experience in North Carolina."

He thanked community members for their support while the search continues. Friends and colleagues remember Waddell, a physical therapist and Aradia Fitness instructor in Cary, as someone who was compassionate, outgoing, and always willing to help others.

The U.S. State Department confirmed to ABC News it was aware of Waddell's disappearance and is assisting the family with filing missing persons reports. The agency declined further comment, citing privacy concerns.
