Law enforcement teams confiscated illegal substances with a street value exceeding €2 million during a large-scale enforcement action spanning several Irish counties.

The coordinated effort took place on 2 July and 8 July, targeting five business locations and two private residences across Castlebar, Longford, Drogheda and Carlow. Authorities had flagged these sites for their involvement in selling electronic cigarette products.

Among the items recovered were jelly candies containing cannabis, vaping liquids laced with cannabis oil, and tobacco products infused with HHC and THC compounds.

The sweep drew resources from multiple agencies, including the national drugs bureau, customs officials, and local drug squads covering Longford, Mayo, Roscommon, Kildare and the Drogheda area.

A pair of suspects, both aged in their 30s, were taken into custody in Mayo and Longford. They remain held under drug trafficking legislation at police stations in the Midlands region.

The confiscated materials are scheduled for examination by Ireland's forensic laboratory. Detectives say the inquiry remains active.

This enforcement action falls under a nationwide anti-narcotics campaign initiated by the country's top police official in mid-2021. The strategy aims to dismantle drug networks operating at every tier — from international smuggling rings down to neighborhood dealers.

Health officials have raised alarms about recreational products marketed as vapes that may harbor potent synthetic cannabinoids. Hospital data suggests some habitual marijuana users have suffered psychiatric breakdowns after inhaling HHC through vaping devices.
