A 32-year-old man from County Clare has been granted High Court bail after being charged in connection with a cannabis seizure estimated at €2 million.

A man in his early thirties from west Clare has won a bail application at the High Court following his arrest over a significant cannabis haul. He had previously been denied bail at district court level.

Odhran O'Brien, aged 32 and residing in the Kilmihil area, appeared before Ennis District Court where his legal representative confirmed the successful bail bid. The court agreed to push back proceedings to give prosecutors time to prepare their case.

The defendant faces allegations of holding a large quantity of cannabis for distribution. The discovery was made at a property in Cahermurphy on 8 May, where officers reportedly found roughly 100 kilograms of the substance packed across three pallets inside an outbuilding. Authorities put the potential worth of the material at approximately €2 million.

During questioning, the accused maintained he did not know what the delivery contained. He claimed the items were described to him as vehicle components and were addressed to his grandmother's residence. "I never knew what was on that pallet," he told the bench, adding that he felt speechless about his predicament.

Detective Garda Dáithí King testified that the suspect was apprehended in connection with the consignment, which arrived via courier on the day of the raid. The defendant expressed remorse for the impact on his relatives and stated he would accept any restrictions imposed as part of his release.

Sergeant John Burke noted that laboratory testing and instructions from the prosecution service would require an extended period. The matter was put back until October for further hearing.
