A man from west Clare has been released on bail by the High Court following charges linked to a major cannabis seizure.

A 32-year-old from Cahermurphy, Kilmihil in County Clare has obtained bail from the High Court following his arrest over a significant drugs find.

Odhran O'Brien appeared at Ennis District Court, where his legal representative confirmed the bail outcome. Proceedings were put back until October 7th to give the prosecution time to prepare its case.

The defendant faces accusations of holding cannabis with intent to supply, plus simple possession, at his residence on May 8th. The alleged haul — roughly 100 kilograms packed in 40 parcels across three pallets — is worth an estimated €2 million according to investigators.

During the earlier bail contest, a detective stated that law enforcement found the pallets concealed in plastic inside an outbuilding. A courier had dropped them off at the property that same day. The defendant maintained he had no knowledge of what was inside, claiming he understood the shipment to be vehicle components. He noted the delivery was addressed to his grandmother's home.

Mr O'Brien had initially been denied bail at the lower court. At that hearing, he apologised to relatives present and said he would accept any restrictions imposed. His partner and sibling attended the session.

A sergeant indicated that forensic testing and prosecution instructions would require an extended period.
