Gardaí have arrested a Polish man in his 20s after a 65-year-old from Limerick vanished five weeks ago. A flat in the Liberties area has been sealed off.

Gardaí have sealed off an apartment in the Liberties area of Dublin city following information that a missing 65-year-old man was murdered there before his body was removed from the scene, Dublin Live reports.

The man, originally from Limerick but living in Dublin city centre, was last seen approximately five weeks ago. Detectives based at Kevin Street Station are investigating, with one line of enquiry suggesting he was stabbed to death at a flat in south central Dublin.

A Polish national in his 20s was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the case and is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in the Dublin city area.

The investigation was triggered after the man's family in Limerick grew concerned for his welfare in recent days and contacted gardaí on Tuesday. That contact led to the arrest and the subsequent sealing off of the property.

An Garda Síochána confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday evening: "Gardaí are investigating all of the circumstances around the disappearance of a male (aged in his 60's) who was reported missing from the Dublin 8 Area, on Sunday 26th July 2026. As a result of ongoing enquiries, a male (aged in his 20's) has been arrested in connection with the investigation today, Tuesday 28th July 2026. He is currently detained pursuant to Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at a Garda station in the Dublin City area. Investigations ongoing. An Garda Síochána has no further comment at this time."

Officers confirmed they suspect the missing man has been murdered, though his body has not yet been located. The search for him is continuing as part of the broader investigation.
