Dublin 8 disappearance: man in his 20s arrested over missing 65-year-old

Gardaí have arrested a man in his 20s in connection with the disappearance of a 65-year-old from Dublin 8, missing for five weeks.

Gardaí have arrested a man in his 20s in connection with the disappearance of a 65-year-old Dublin man, RTÉ News reports. Investigators say they fear the missing man has come to serious harm.

The older man has been absent from his home in Dublin 8 for approximately five weeks. His family first appealed for information on social media before formally reporting him missing to gardaí at Kevin Street station on Sunday.

In their appeal, relatives described checking hospitals and garda stations without success. They said he is the father of a number of children and that his brothers, sisters and extended family are deeply worried about him.

Following the launch of a criminal investigation, gardaí detained a suspect believed to be of eastern European origin. He is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, which allows for questioning of up to 24 hours.
