Drugs worth €11.5m seized at Dublin Port, two arrested

Cocaine, cannabis and cash recovered in Dublin Port drug seizures

Revenue officers seized illicit drugs with a combined estimated value of €11.5m during three separate operations at Dublin Port last week, bbc.com reports. A man and a woman have been arrested and remain in custody at a Garda station in Dublin.

The first seizure took place on Friday, when officers recovered 24.5kg of cocaine worth more than €1.7m. A detector dog and a mobile X-ray scanner were used to locate the Class A drug inside a refrigerated container that had arrived from Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

On Saturday, an intelligence-led operation involving Revenue's Customs Service and the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau resulted in the seizure of approximately 392kg of herbal cannabis, with an estimated street value of €7.84m.

The third seizure occurred the following day. Officers found around 80.5kg of herbal cannabis and 5kg of cocaine, with a combined estimated value of €1.95m, during a search of a truck and trailer that had arrived from Cherbourg, France. Detector dogs and X-ray scanners were again deployed. A further €143,900 in cash was also recovered at the scene.

Investigations into all three seizures are ongoing.
